Spring Pontoon Checklist: Get Your Premier Ready for Water

Spring is here. Soon you’ll be on the water and those winter blues will vanish in a blink of an eye. Your Premier pontoon has been patiently waiting for this moment, hopefully tucked away, wrapped, or stored. Now it’s time to get ready for another season, and a little work now will ensure you’ll have a summer of incredible memories.

Let’s start outside by giving your pontoon a wash. First sweep away any leaves or debris that collected over the winter. A quick pass with a vacuum or broom gets into the tight spots and keeps mold from getting a start. This is more than just a cosmetic exercise. Give the outer and center PTX (if equipped) tubes a good scrub as well. Pay close attention to the reverse chine edges and lifting strakes. Here is where grime and early signs of corrosion can collect. Also check for dings or loose hardware. A few minutes now will ensure you’ll be enjoying the sharp handling that only PTX technology can deliver on your Premier pontoon all summer long.

Next, head inside and wipe down the furniture and flooring with mild soap and a soft brush. Open all of the storage compartments to ensure nothing “unexpected” was left behind or found a new place to live over the winter months. Vacuum the crevices around the seats and floor to clear out any hidden debris that could lead to mildew. A light mist of fabric protectant on the furniture will keep things looking fresh all summer and add additional protection from sun and weather.

Now let’s tackle the power side of things. Charge the batteries fully and clean the terminals. Check engine oil, lower-unit lubrication, and make sure water flows through the cooling system. Test all lights, the horn, and your Simrad now so nothing surprises you at the ramp. Finish with the trailer (if you have one). Check the tires, bearings, lights, and straps. Now is also the best time to give your safety gear a quick once-over too.
